Having a lovely time in Antalya, Turkey

Sergio and I are having a lovely time in Antlaya. Considering we booked this as a ‘cheap’ break without knowing much about the area or the facilities, we have been very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is wonderful and I am sitting on our balcony as I write this looking out over the exotic gardens with the Meditteranean and the beautiful mountains in the background.

The temperature has been in the high 30s since we got here, but I’m managing to cope by drinking gallons of water and frequent applications of sunblock.

There isn’t a huge amount to do, but that suits me just fine. We’ve spent some time at the hotel pool – huge, warm and relatively quiet – and we’ve been to a few roman excavation sites nearby, but that’s about it.

We had heard that the food was excellent and the people very friendly here and I can certainly testify to that. Everywhere we’ve been the food has been wonderful and very reasonably priced. Suprisingly, a lot of people in the hotels and restaurants don’t seem to speak English. We’ve been getting by with my schoolboy German and the few phrases of Turkish we’ve picked up (saying “Teshekur Ederim” while smiling seems to go a long way here).

Sergio bought me an ‘experience day’ for my birthday, and today we went to Windsor to see around the castle, followed by Cream Tea at the Windsor Castle Hotel. Lovely scones Need to update the map now though…
